   This used to come up here from time to time. Disagree all you want, but   
   the man himself wrote in 1946--when he was no longer 'young'--that   
      
   "Every line of serious work that I have written since 1936 has been   
   written, directly or indirectly, *against* totalitarianism and *for*   
   democratic Socialism, as I understand it."
