   Not a 'nice try' but the truth. I have no axe to grind on this. I'm a   
   Catholic [Orwell was very anti-Catholic] and spent most of my professional   
   career either in the Army or in a fed job that attempts to spread free   
   market and democratic ideals to the Newly Independent States [former Soviet   
   Union]. I've simply read read Orwell's letters, essays and his biographies.   
      
   He loathed the extreme right and the extreme left. He saw Stalinism as the   
   worst threat existing in his world and apologists on the left who enabled   
   it as at best idiots. He says as much in the last years of his life It had   
   little to do with being a conservative [he always distrusted capitalism],   
   it had everything to do with his view of socialism. Not my opinion, but   
   his. If you don't believe me fine, then read it in his own words-  get a   
   copy his writings, letters, essays, etc written near the end of his life.   
   You argument is with George Orwell not with me.
