From: joe_f@verizon.net              From O.'s domestic diary, 11 April 1940, in Complete Works, Vol. 12:               17 eggs. Dropped them and broke every one. Did not suppose they        could all have broken without exception, but so it was.              I note with curiosity that he sold his eggs by the score. I never       bought eggs while in Britain, but I find it hard to imagine consumers       buying them that way. Perhaps retailers added value by breaking up       threescore into five dozen.              I am taking the Complete Works out of the Harvard library one volume       at a time. It seems no-one else is doing that at the moment; for they       are all lined up on the shelf (mirabile dictu, a short walk from the       stacks entrance).       --       --- Joe Fineman joe_f@verizon.net              ||: You can't fake out a train. :||              --- SoupGate-Win32 v1.05        * Origin: you cannot sedate... all the things you hate (1:229/2)    |
