   The following lines for "Oranges and Lemons", which somehow failed to   
   make it into _Nineteen Eighty-Four_, are in O.'s last literary   
   notebook (CW 20:210):   
      
     Your mother was a spinster, say the bells of the Westminster,   
     Don't keep talking balls, say the bells of St Paul's.   
      
   I suppose he might have heard them somewhere, but I like to think he   
   made them up.   
      
   Next time thou hearest church bells, remember, they toll for thee.
