   On of the reasons Martha has reached her grand old age and still - with a   
   perfectly straight face - labels anyone sceptical of aspects of left wing   
   policy a nazi is because as you know with fanatics, one little crack in the   
   edifice and like as not the whole monument comes tumbling down. Obduracy of   
   thought, obstinacy in policy and flat-out denial of reality - trump cards in   
   religious fruitcakes, terrorists, commies and fascists - are the order of   
   the day. So when Mr Fineman opined the other day that I was being rude in   
   comparing Martha to an Opus Dei or European small town gauleiter of the last   
   war, I wasn't; I was just speaking what I felt, in the way that she does   
   when she imputes a love of the nazis to other people. The faux civility cuts   
   it here, every time.
