   He is one of the greatest rechauffistes in rock and roll history -  Don't   
   get me wrong I really like his records - well, some of them.   
   He's not part of the hegenomic debate because Dylan is basically a   
   reactionary that never got found out; however HD-ers are usually Dylan fans   
   and assume he is one. But mountebank/charlatan - definitely. See the fake   
   bike crash in '66. The interesting thing about Dylan is that he did his best   
   work when he was a total charlatan. The more real he got the worse the   
   records have become - see any record of his from the last 35 years - though   
   Love and Theft was a wonderful late burst. If only the Stones could redeem   
   themselves like that.   
      
   The real Dylan can be glimpsed in the vinegary parts of the songs IMO -   
   Idiot Wind for example is a wonderful record.
