XPost: rec.arts.books       From: wetraprock@hotmail.com              I didn't find 1984 revisited, or whatever it was called, by Peter Huber,       very good, but, on the hand, I haven't actually read it, just flipped       through it. Maybe I should actually read it. It's an attack/reaction       to Orwell's socialism.              For a much better book in this mode, you have to go to the past to The       Scarlet Empire (1906) by David Parry. It's an attack/reaction on Edward       Bellamy's Looking Backward (1887). Much more amusing, dramatic and       better written than Peter Huber's trash. David Parry was head of some       association of manufacturers, and, as you may guess, the nightmare world       described by him had it's origins in the "walking delegates" or some       sort of union activity of the time, leading to the slippery slope of       nightmare equality. Everybody dies in the utopian world, in the end,       but our hero survives rich and retired, cured of his socialist       tendencies.              --- SoupGate-Win32 v1.05        * Origin: you cannot sedate... all the things you hate (1:229/2)    |
