   From the latest issue of the the Eye:   
      
      'How did BBC Radio Four mark Saint George's Day, which fell on a Sunday   
   for the first time in many years?   
   With a rousing display of patriotism perhaps, defiantly reclaiming the flag   
   of St George from football hooligans and racists?   
    Not quite.   
   _Sunday Worship_ on 23 April came from the east coast of Scotland, where the   
   Rev. Dr Ian Bradley used his service to "celebrate all of the United   
   Kingdom's four patron saints and explore the distinctive but overlapping   
   spiritual identities that make up Britishness." This culminated in a request   
   for a "patron saint for the united kingdom as a whole".   
     Curiously the programme had no problem with commemorating St Patrick with   
   a service from Downpatrick om 19th March, St Andrew in a service held in   
   Aberdeen on 28th November 2004 or St David in one from Newport on 29th Feb   
   the same year.'   
      
   Shall we speculate on Dr Bradley's shortlist for a patron saint for the UK?
