Because they're paying for it, on pain of legal action. Because the BBC has
a charter; because it boasts of it's impartiality while, as the leaked
report says, is blatantly biased to the left. Even highly educated Harvard
types are ignorant enough to follow this line of reasoning and blurt
counterintuitively: so what, you want it biased to the Right?

No. I just don't like huge minitrus dedicated to telling lies - makes me
uncomfortable. Also, public service broadcasters - which is what the BBC
is - ought to think a little more about the public they serve.

I don't know why people like you get so worked up about the BBC's
   > composition. (I'm American, so maybe I missed something.)

It is precisely because you;re American that you don't get it. American
lefties (Ms Bridegam is the textbook example) look with envious eyes at the
BBC because your own country is still very conservative. But when the Left
run an operation like the BBC those of us with intelligence are forced to
look at the nuances. When we do this we get shouted down - as people were
about the suicide bomb of multiculturalism-as-policy - as right wing nuts.
But it's just like the way Gollancz wanted to keep Orwell quiet over Animal
   Farm.
