   Orwell added that footnote because Richards categorically &   
   sarcastically stated that he was the author (reply printed in   
   _Horizon_, 1940, and included in CEJL).  I, too, have seen him called   
   a liar, but I forget where (not in Shelden, Meyers, or Crick --   
   perhaps in a review of Hitchens, whom I have not read).  I suppose   
   Hitchens must have had some evidence.
