As the guys coming back from vn told it, the reason we got our asses
kicked by the vc is that us soldiers were scared to come out from
behind their equipment and really fight. The vc on the other hand
were happy to climb up trees and wait for you to come by so they could
pick you off. Same idea in afg. Machinery of war has no chance
against soldiers who are unafraid to die for the chance to give you a
   hard time.

Sorry, you don't sound like anybody who has been anywhere near a war.
You have no concept of the ugly brutality of it. You believe in the
myth of glory. There is no glory in war. Only death everywhere. And
guys come back damaged by what they have seen.
