   Authorities in Pennsylvania say a father raped and beat his infant   
   daughter, then let her die of severe injuries while he messaged   
   women on his phone.   
      
   According to The U.S. Sun, Austin Stevens, 29, faces multiple counts   
   in the death of 10-month-old Zara Scruggs, who police said was   
   fatally assaulted at his apartment in Lower Providence Township,   
   Pennsylvania.   
      
   Zara was found unresponsive with a diaper full of blood on Saturday   
   night and she was pronounced dead at Einstein Medical Center in   
   Montgomery County not long after midnight.   
      
   Authorities claimed that a 911 call was made roughly an hour after   
   the infant daughter was allegedly assaulted and raped by her father.   
      
   Austin Stevens was arrested and charged after his daughter Zara   
   Scruggs was fatally assaulted at his apartment in Lower Providence   
   Township, Pennsylvania.   
      
   Furthermore, police allegedly discovered a number of disturbing   
   searches on Stevens’ phone — potentially linked to the father’s   
   alleged rape of his infant daughter.   
      
   According to CBS affiliate KYW in Philadelphia, Stevens conducted   
   several Google searches on his phone of “how do you know if a baby   
   is dead,” “if baby stops breathing,” “what if you don’t hear baby   
   heart or beat,” and “my baby isn’t breathing.”

   Stevens also allegedly used his phone to chat with two women before   
   calling authorities. They did not discuss his daughter.   
      
   Montgomery County District Attorney Kevin Steele decried the   
   apparent facts of the case as “deeply disturbing   
      
   An autopsy revealed Zara was the victim of a sexual assault and also   
   sustained blunt force trauma to her head.   
      
      
   According to ABC affiliate WPVI in Philadelphia, Stevens is charged   
   with involuntary deviant sexual intercourse, aggravated assault and   
   other charges.   
      
   Steele noted he could potentially face additional charges as   
   investigators are awaiting forensic results to determine Zara’s   
   cause of death.   
      
   According to WPVI, friends of Stevens have expressed disbelief at   
   the charges saying “not in his character” and that they “think there   
   are some other variables in play resulting in the charges.”   
      
   Anyone with information about other acts of abuse connected to   
   Stevens should call police.   
      
   Stevens remains behind bars in the Montgomery County Jail on $1   
   million bail.   
      
   It wasn’t immediately clear if he had an attorney available to   
   comment on the charges.   
      
   According to Patch, Zara’s mother Erica expressed disbelief at the   
   accusation that her daughter’s father raped and killed the infant   
      
   “I really have no words. … I’m not okay,” Erica wrote on Facebook. A   
   GoFundMe for Erica has already exceeded its goals.   
      
   “She was smart. She was silly. She was sassy. She was perfect. She   
   was a beautiful baby and brought so much beauty into hundreds of   
   lives.”
