XPost: rec.food.baking, alt.activism, alt.fan.rush-limbaugh       XPost: talk.politics.guns, sac.politics, alt.politics.homosexuality       From: democrat-criminals@mail.house.gov              https://news.yahoo.com/entertainment/cinnabon-allegedly-banned-pride-deco       rations-210123812.html              Workers at a Los Angeles Cinnabon went on strike to protest the alleged       banning of Pride decor from their store.              Fourteen workers at the Northridge Fashion Center Cinnabon walked out       last Friday, the beginning of a three-day strike, according to the Los       Angeles Times. The controversy began when Greg Reheis, the vice       president of operations for 13th Floor/Pilot, a company that operates       over a dozen Cinnabon locations, allegedly sent a series of messages to       over 200 workers on June 16.              “We do not discriminate or celebrate any particular race, ethnic group,       gender specific group, religious group,” Reheis wrote in a message. “If       any store [is] displaying a Pride Flag, it is to be taken down       IMMEDIATELY!”              According to NBC News, an employee asked in a group chat if wearing pins       would be okay, to which Reheis responded, “Non specific pins (happy       face, etc) are OK. But sports team, group, school pins, etc., are not       OK.” When the employee said that a rainbow pin would be okay, Reheis       allegedly said, “Nope, that would be specific to a group.”              Those messages were included in a complaint to the California Civil       Rights Department, which was filed last Monday. The workers are alleging       that Cinnabon discriminated against employees based on sexual       orientation, gender identity, and gender expression, and are demanding       that Cinnabon retract the policy. Additionally, the workers are       demanding that Cinnabon train “managers and employees to comply with       existing laws prohibiting discrimination on the basis of sexual       orientation, gender identity and gender expression,” per NBC News.              “We are fighting to defend our civil rights, including the right to       express our identities and our solidarity with one another,” the       complaint said, according to NBC News. “Cinnabon ought to be a place       where we can come to work and feel good about ourselves, without being       singled out and discriminated against on the basis of sexual       orientation, gender identity and gender expression.”              The company continues to deny claims their policies have changed.              According to the complaint, the ban on Pride decor does not align with       how the Cinnabon stores owned by 13th Floor/Pilot have celebrated other       holidays like Christmas, Easter, Mother’s Day and Father’s Day, which       franchises are not allowed to opt out of. Additionally, the complaint       notes that various organizations, including church groups and sports       teams, are allowed to fundraise with Cinnabon, implying that Cinnabon is       associated with support for those groups. The complaint says that this       provides “overwhelming evidence that the policy issued June 16th is, in       fact, a homophobic and transphobic policy applied only to Pride.”              The workers also said that the strike was in protest of extremely hot       working conditions. According to a video posted to Twitter by the Los       Angeles branch of the national campaign Fight for $15, the air       conditioning in the Northridge store hasn’t worked since September 2022.       This was backed by the Los Angeles Times, which reported that workers       have regularly had to work in temperatures up to the mid-90s.              Cinnabon, Reheis and 13th Floor/Pilot have yet to respond publicly.              Cinnabon’s alleged ban on Pride decorations is only one of several high       profile incidents of its kind that occurred during June. Starbucks       allegedly banned Pride decorations from some locations, leading workers       to strike in protest. After widespread conservative backlash against       Target’s Pride collection, the big box store pulled many of the products       from shelves. Google capitulated to complaints from its Christian       employees and withdrew its support from a drag show organized by and for       LGBTQ+ employees. And last but not least, Bud Light failed to stand       behind Dylan Mulvaney after she faced intense right-wing hate for       partnering with the beer company, with the influencer alleging that the       brand never reached out to her after the harassment began.              Get the best of what’s queer.
