AUSTIN, Texas — Austin police arrested several suspects accused of
stealing thousands of dollars in merchandise from retailers in the
   Lakeline Mall area.

The department's "shopping blitz" operation on Thursday, December 5 led to
nine arrests for organized criminal activity, theft, and possession of a
controlled substance in North Austin and Williamson County.

Police say the first case was at Kohl's, located at 111111 Lakeline Blvd,
where a group of four suspects attempted to conceal the unpaid merchandise
in a baby stroller. When police were called, the suspects fled and left
the stroller with the stolen items behind, but they were quickly arrested.
Police recovered nearly $1,100 in merchandise and an additional $1,200 in
stolen merchandise from two other stores from their vehicle.

The second case was at Lowe's, located at 13201 N FM 620. Police received
a tip that Javier Rios, 41, a known high-value repeat offender, was inside
Lowe's. When officers arrived, Rios was walking out with a flatbed cart
carrying an unpaid AC Unit valued at $2,156 and was arrested. Police also
recovered a shower kit valued at $609 inside Rios' vehicle that had been
stolen from a separate Lowe's location on the same day.

The third and fourth incidents occurred at Target at 10900 Lakeline Mall
Drive. Police received a report of a known theft suspect, Donovan Clausen,
23, who was removing an anti-theft device from an electronics item and
then exited the store with several unpaid items. Employees attempted to
stop him when Clausen began running but was detained near a car, where he
had met with a female suspect, Christina Shell, 44. Officers located
additional stolen items and narcotics inside the vehicle. Clausen was
charged with one count of theft and one count of unlawful possession of a
controlled substance while Shell was charged with two counts of unlawful

and was confronted by an employee. Morales abandoned the cart and stepped
into a vehicle in the parking lot and left. Police caught up with the
vehicle and arrested Morales for theft. The driver of the vehicle was
identified as Crystal Overby, 44, and learned she had an active warrant
