I won't argue the point per se, but I write CBM support utils in Java
because I can offer easier cross platform support without multiple
codebases. Code bloat and memory usage are items I can control, but
what platform a user desires is not.

And, yes, I know Mono is out there, and I'm not knocking it, but that
just seems like (flashback 20 years) asking a C64 zealot to write code
that will also run on the Apple II or Atari. Doable, sure. probable,
   less probable.

No offense, Payton. I've got Visual Studio installed and in use for
   other projects.
