Ask yourself this simple question: Would the new C64 be a C64? If you use
new hardware design, would it still be C64. This would be why Commodore had
a C128 model. Using new model name/number. C64 is the model of a series of 8
bit Commodore computers running on 6502 architecture. If anything, a new
"Commodore computer" shouldn't be called "Commodore 64" or "C64". The
joystick itself is not called "C64" exactly. C64 is EXACTLY what it is and
not a single soul here would want that changed. A new computer based on C64
technology but modernized, maybe some people.

Some people don't want their ideas "commercialized" and will NOT work with
Commodore. However, it would be an interesting idea if they did do some more
role in connecting with Commodore. For example: If they helped produce the
   IDE64.

Upgrading of any kind DOES imply potential loss in compatibility as it
implies some changes. However, it might be possible for them to provide a
niche market. Commodore should however be diverse in their product lines.
