But who knows how much advertising there was locally? (i.e.       > not on Usenet)       >              Leif,              One of the reasons that the Louisville / Chicago / Toronto EXPOs all had       large attendances was they are all relatively close so people from each city       travelled to the other EXPOs regularly. That was what it looked like to me.       I know every year after every EXPO I would see pictures with some of the       same people at each show. Having held 5 very successful C= EXPOs here in       Edmonton in the late 80's and early 90's I knew what fun they could be (as       well as how much work they were) and wanted to attend a modern C= show. I       finally got to the Louisville EXPO in 2004 in spite of the expense involved.       That was one of the reasons for having an EXPO out west - to give other       people who don't live in the Commodore Triangle area of N. America a chance       to attend a more localized event and see what they are like.              Also, the big three clubs that sponsored the Eastern EXPOs are all active       with many people creating very interesting items for demos. Jaw-Dropping       demos at CommVEx have been rather scarce but the topics covered have been of       value.              Of course, if the attendance at the shows doesn't justify it then CommVEx       won't continue, I'm sure.              More local advertising would help although I can't speak to how much was       done this year. Last year I ran into numerous people who saw the C= logo on       hats and shirts and got all excited about the show. Some attended - some       didn't. There was also the people who came by from DEFCON which was the same       weekend as CommVEx in 2005.              Plus, there is that Vegas July heat to deal with. Some people stay away just       because of that. I know my wife isn't keen to go back there in July any time       soon.              I wish the groups running CommVEx now all the best in creating a show that       people HAVE TO attend and hope that it continues for quite a few years so       that people who are in the area and haven't heard of it or had the chance to       attend can learn about it and participate and get more involved in using       their Commodores thru seeing what others do with theirs.              Bruce              --- SoupGate-Win32 v1.05        * Origin: you cannot sedate... all the things you hate (1:229/2)    |
