You could've celebrated either of these things on October 13th:

   * The 231st anniversary of the congress giving clearance to
acquire ships and subsequently form the US Navy.

   * The 214th anniversary of George Washington putting the
    cornerstone to the White House.

   * The 55th anniversary of the first use of a rubber coated football.

   * The 53rd anniversary of the patent for an ultrasonic burglar alarm.

   * The 49th anniversary of Bing Crosby and Frank Sinatra introducing
    the Ford Edsel on ABC-TV.

   * The 43rd anniversary of Beatles appearing in the first major TV
    on BBC.

   * The 12th anniversary of Netscape Navigator offered to individuals
    for free.

   Some birthdays on October 13th:

   * The 65th birthday of Paul Simon.
   * The 47th birthday of Marie Osmond.
   * The 44th birthday of Kelly Preston.
   * The 37th birthday of Nancy Kerrigan.

But yeah.. "almost Halloween" sounds much better than those. ;-P
