   Weed, California. The only Hotel that I recall near the border unless you   
   are going Coastal route but the I-5 / I-99 route takes me to Weed, CA if I   
   remember which is almost to the border and north of Shasta.   
      
   I been there at the Motel-6.  When going from L.A. to Astoria and the other   
   direction. Except for those 16-18 hours straight trips. Gawd, damn that

        We'd be glad to see you there.  FWIW, I will leave straight from   
   work on Friday, drive 7 hours to the California/Oregon border and   
   spend   
   the night at a hotel there, then 5 hours to Portland where I will   
   spend   
   the night, and finally on Sunday the last 2 hours to Astoria.
