I wonder how those people who _do_ develop new stuff can manage              I know *I* deal with the issue by only working on solutions that *I* can       use and care about. That way, I know there is one primary user who is       incredibly satisfied with the product under development. The corollary:        If you want Jim to work on a project, Jim needs to find some personal       value in it. No offense, but getting the community to agree on a       defined list of requirements for a project is like herding cats.              I have two unresolved concerns, though.              I don't have an issue comparing offerings against the CMD product lineup       technical specifications. Mark Fellows was/is a worthy designer, and       the products have many redeeming qualities. I do have an issue       comparing production levels, documentation, and compatibility of new       products with CMD offerings. It's just not possible to attain those       ideals in this marketplace. As well, for some of the concerns       (documentation, support), I think that should be a call to arms for       others to provide some value to a project.              I am concerned there is no way to distinguish the current crop of       peripherals as "hobby" projects. 1541-III, sd2iec, uIEC, 1541U,       Fotios's offerings, C=Key, 64JPX, etc. (and maybe even IDE64, I don't       know) are all "passion" projects. I wish there were, so people would       assign the right expectations. A commercial solution does not need word       of mouth advertising (not that it isn't appreciated), but a hobby       project depends on it. It is appropriate to take a proprietor to task       for bad customer service or other failings, but it is less appropriate       on a hobby project.              Jim              --- SoupGate-Win32 v1.05        * Origin: you cannot sedate... all the things you hate (1:229/2)    |
