They're upper class, white Protestants, even if they're only at the
lower fringe of the upper class, like doctors and lawyers. Upper middle
class is insufficient, but they are rich, although not necessarily
filthy rich. They have more than they need to live comfortably, with at
least some of the trappings of wealth. They don't have to be a preppy
either, but they have to able to get into those circles if they want to.
They have to want their kids to go to Harvard, if the kids can make the
grade.
