... A shorter explanation of it is that basically, the cervix is too small
... for all the menstrual blood to pass completely out during the woman's
... monthly period, thus causing some of the menstrual blood and tissue to
... BACK UP and disperse itself just about anywhere--like Magda explained,

   Nope - as Magda *quoted*.

... it can be all over the bladder, uterus, anus, etc. Now, over years and
... years of this --no one knows for sure when it starts for those of us
... who have it, but my GYN guessed for me it probably started shortly
... after my cycle began when I was 11...I was 33 when it was found I had
... it, so you can do the math as to how long this shit was building up in
... me---this also explains why women who suffer from it don't find out
... until they are 30 or older, when they start trying to have babies and
... can't figure out why they aren't conceiving. I was lucky, my doctor
... found it in me and I'm not yet married, so my hope is that I will be
... able to one day have at least one baby despite this problem that
... threatens my feritlity every day. So far, all my parts are still
... intact. Some women have it so bad they will have to have a
... hysterectomy--but that's only in the case that there are large
... fribroids or tumors. That CAN become cancerous later in life, so that's
... why a hysterctomy might be performed. So, as I said, over years and
... years of this "backed up blood" sprinkling all over various organs,
... cysts, tumors, or fibroids can form. THIS is what threatens the
... fertility of the woman who has endometriosis. It's the building up of
... the stuff over years. Surgery can help a lot, but the ketch 22 is that
... ultimately the only CURE for it is to have a baby--by having a baby
... the cervix opens to it's proper size. It only takes one baby to cure
... it. But the ketch 22 is that the endometriosis is that very thing that
... can make us NOT be able to have a baby. My endometriosis was discovered
... during a routine examine when my doctor was pressing on my lower
... abdomen. He sent me to a GYN and she sent me to a sonogram where they
... found a fibroid the size of a grapefruit on my uterus. Thank God, the
... uterus did not have to be removed, just the tumor. When I then went for
... a MRI that test found my left ovary was full of endometriosis. The
... ovary was so full of what the doctors call "chocolate cyst" (it's the
... backed up menstrual blood I mentioned before and it's the color of
... chocolate) that it was enlarged about 5 times the normal size. So
    ... that's why I ended up have a double-surgery--because finding one thing
... led to finding the other thing. Luckily, I didn't lose the ovary
... either--my doctor just opened it up, scooped out the "chocolate" and
... sewed it back up. Now I have to take birth control pills--in my case,
... not for birth control but to keep my periods light each month. The less
... blood backing up, the better.
    ...
    ... It's really a silent destroyer of a woman's ability to have children. I
... never had any pain. Never knew this tumor was growing in me. In fact,
... my tumor had been there so long, my GYN said it was already in the
... stage of breaking down. I encourage all women to checked checked for
... this in their early to mid-20s if they EVER want to have chidlren. This
... is why I don't mind talking about something so personal, because women
... NEED to know about it. They need to get checked for it--all they have
... to do is ask their doctor to write them a preferral for an MRI or a
... sonogram. Finding out before the age of 30 is best, or well before they
... plan to start a family.
