   And here in Massachusetts. Somehow the Republic has survived. Hetero   
   marriages have not failed (no faster or more often than before same-sex   
   marriage). Why not let gay people mess it up as much as straight people?   
      
   A local woman wrote a great book, "What is Marriage For?" (E.J. Graff).   
   It sure made clear to me that marriage has served many purposes in   
   society and there is no good reason that two consenting adults cannot be   
   married. It's only fair, unless the state wants to stop all the various   
   perks that accrue only to married people.
