   Hardly unique to Germany.

And I've just taught a couple of 30ish year olds to drive.

And just dumped one of them in middle of the state capital
CBD outside the main railway station at the traffic lights
with me bailing out of at the lights because we were running
very late for me to catch the train back. He'd never driven in
a state capital before, they learned to drive in a 50K population
country town. He got me to drive them in their car to the state
capital they were moving to for work. He doesn't even go to
bed till after midnight and its an 7 hour trip thru the night
to get to the state capital from here, left at midnight.

He wasn't too fazed when it came to the crunch and drove
back into the CBD in the evening to catch up with me.
I missed the train by 10 mins because I thought I'd
have an hour or so to wander around the main inner
city train station and work out where my train was and
whether you have to check in like you do with the airlines.
