Think Palm Pilot and BlackBerry...       >       > that was a totally different era, when apple was grossly mismanaged.       >       > it's a very, very different company now.              I would never have predicted that Apple could sustain the huge profit       margins that it does sustain, but, you have to understand that the extremly       low (actually dismal) price:performance ratio is what makes Apple one of       the most profitable companies on this planet.              I always give credit where credit is due, so I applaud Apple MARKETING for       maintaining those artificially high profit margins on dismally low       price:performance ratios, and as you know, I have always argued on high       price:performance metrics (which is why I almost always buy Android       equipment that is roughly around half the price of "essentially equivalent"       Apple equipment for my needs.              What's *different* now, is that Google seems to be *matching* that dismally       low price:performance ratio, spec by spec, and even down to the very last       dollar (as you so clearly pointed out to me prior).              What that means is that the game has changed *if*.              If Google is successful, then the game for Apple has suddenly changed.       If Google fails at the Pixels, then, perhaps the game for Apple is still       playing well for them.              It all depends on whether Android customers will stoop to the level of       horrendous price:performance metrics.              I don't know the answer to that question.              All I know is that I would never pay that much for such a phone when I can       get a phone that is just as good (for the specs I care about) for far less       I'm sure.              For example, I care about a dual sim, and I care about an expansion slot       and I care about a removable battery and I care about the GSM frequencies       in my area and I care about having as much RAM as I can get and I won't       ever get a phone with less than 32GB of storage and I care about the       fastest CPU and GPU I can get, and I care about having Bluetooth file       transfer, and I care about Wi-Fi performance and features, etc., all at the       same time.              What I don't care about is the color of the phone (for heaven's sake!), or       the meaningless NFC specs, or the lousy camera lens that is in all       smartphones, etc.              Given that, I'm sure I can find a far better price:performance phone than       either the iPhone7 or the Pixel; so that's what I'll endeavor to do next       (but it's not the first thing on my agenda, so that may take time).              If Android users have a good suggestion for an Android or Apple phone that       is better in price:performance for the specs that matter, let me know.              --- SoupGate-Win32 v1.05        * Origin: you cannot sedate... all the things you hate (1:229/2)    |
