   The credit card companies have some sort of setup for micro-transactions   
   since normal credit card fees include a percentage plus a fixed   
   interchange fee (10¢ is the wholesale rate for Visa and banks with   
   merchant accounts will add something as well). If it were 1.8% plus 10¢   
   on a 99¢ transaction then it would be over 11%. Square charges a very   
   high 2.75% fee on swiped transactions, but no interchange fee.   
      
   There was one app that I wanted on Google Play that wasn't free. It's an   
   annual cost, paid to the author directly via PayPal, of $96 per year,   
   after a one month free trial

   It seemed shady but it was legitimate, and it was to avoid paying the   
   high fees of the Play Store. But I decided to solve the problem that the   
   app solved by using Google Voice, and Google Voice is a better solution.
