   I know people with no computer experience at all that manage fine with   
   their Android phones. The stats show how popular they are, which denies   
   your claim of it being unfriendly.   
      
   You just have to approach them with an open mind.   
      
   There is an "android phones for dummies" book that is actually quite   
   good. If you have problems with Android, that's your route.
