|    Why did Apple rebrand the multitasking i    |

XPost: comp.mobile.ipad, misc.phone.mobile.iphone       From: _arlen.george@halder.edu              Today I called Apple on the bricking of the older iPads scheduled for       November 3rd, where I asked the second level of support (first level was       atrocious - she didn't even know about the GPS rollover bugs) why they have       a different name for the operating system now for the iPad versus the       iPhone.              The second level of support told me, rather honestly, (which I appreciated       since Apple is usually rather clever on lying to its customers), that it's       just a branding change where the goal is to get people to start thinking       about iOS as a "computer operating system" (clearly the support person       didn't know me other than by my Apple ID), which will never work until the       iPad stops being just a pretty looking toy, IMHO.              All the branding in the world isn't going to fool people in the know.              To Apple's credit, the support person mentioned that the multitasking is       computer like, and that's their goal ... to be more like a real computer...       which is interesting, so we should take note.              The main reason, according to this one conversation, which has only the       weight we give it, is that Apple apparently wants to differentiate the iPad       operating system from the iPhone operating system, and they want the iPad       operating system to snuggle up closer to the "computer operating systems"       than to the more single-tasking phone operating systems.              Keep that in mind when we see future Apple marketing aimed at this.              --       The second level of support was refreshingly honest in their responses.              --- SoupGate-Win32 v1.05        * Origin: you cannot sedate... all the things you hate (1:229/2)    |
