XPost: alt.cellular.attws, alt.cellular.cingular       From: noone@home.com              A few days ago, in answer to one of the spammers on many of these sellphone       newsgroups, I posted the webpages for a FREE, open source, and great       running mp4 converter that would convert various movie formats into mp4,       some of the sizes and speeds I thought would be compatible with the       iPhones.              This was not done as a troll or in some attempt to poke fun at the iPhone,       but an honest attempt to do something nice for them and save them some       serious money buying some spammer's software they were hawking, here.              The webpages where the software is stored is our garage.maemo.org       repository of software to support the Nokia N770/800/810 Linux tablets, but       this software doesn't run on the tablets. It runs on a wide variety of OS       platforms it has been ported to by simply making it a java cross platform       app from some really hard working coders from across the planet, then       running it in the native JAVA runtime modules installed in their various OS       machines.              https://garage.maemo.org/projects/mediaconverter/              44,255 people have downloaded and installed this GNU freeware, including       me, and it works fantastic converting full length movies to a more tablet-       friendly, compact format that doesn't take so much memory card space/movie.       Any movie your main computer can play will convert to MP4 and run fine, at       least on my N800 tablet under Maemo Linux OS2007 I have on it at the       moment. The video is stunning! An old John Wayne western looks like fuzzy       on the big monitor, but once converted and the result played on the tablet,       it looks great...and I don't know why.              But, It's been days since I posted it, and not a single simple reply has       come back to us to report how well, if any, it runs on the iPhone or which       format looks best as the converter has many sizes and formats to choose       from. The software is quite simple to run and is made for the end user,       not the Linux hackers.              Maybe I'm not waiting long enough. If I were a jailbroke iPhone owner, I'd       certainly try playing something free before forking over $30-40 to some       spammer. It simply doesn't make any sense why there's been no reports.              --- SoupGate-Win32 v1.05        * Origin: you cannot sedate... all the things you hate (1:229/2)    |
