The thing is I don't disagree with you Kevin, I *know* it's possible to
educate a child in school, I've seen it happen often enough. I just wanted
you to understand that it's perfectly feasible out of school too, I've also
seen that happen (obviously you haven't).

I didn't take it as an insult, honestly. The thing is though that I know
less families with two parents working than with one, and this was the case
even when I wasn't mixing with HErs. Maybe it's a cultural thing? Maybe
there are more SAHP in the UK? I also know a lot of Americans that are
working more than one job, I don't know anyone here doing that (although
there are people, no doubt about it).
It's weird really, as the cost of living is much higher here than in the US.
I think, and I know I'm likely to get flamed here by someone or other, the
US is more of a consumer society than the UK...we expect to afford less
'stuff'. I know someone will say that they have to have two wages just to
afford to eat, and I'm sure that's true in some cases - but not all.

Of course, I never implied anything different :o)
As an aside, do you find that you're treated in a different manner by your
children's teacher just because they know that you too are in the
   profession?
