   If there is only one wire going to the cartridge then the second wire   
   must be connected to the metal tone arm. So, for your P51-2 you simply   
   connect one of the two terminals to the tone arm via a short bit of wire   
   likely best secured to the mounting screw of the cartridge.   
      
   Do check that the pickup wire pair (shield and center wire) is split and   
   the shield is indeed connected to the tone arm otherwise somewhere along   
   the line a wire broke off and you will have no signal at all - no return   
   path for those electrons!
