Is there an alternative way       > to remove the gummed up grease without taking the mechanism apart?       >       > Thanks in advance for any help - J.              You need to understand that these old machines required full rebuilds at       least one a year in the old days. 1930s technology is nothing like       todays and while they overbuilt the mechanism it does wear and require       service.              Taking it apart, cleaning, replacing/adding bushings to the drive shafts       is normal procedure.
