   Not uncommon for a select number or letter coil to short out on these   
   machines - leading to fuses blowing.   
      
   The solution is to get the service manual and then do a resistance check   
   on the letter and number coils - which can be done from the sockets on   
   the underside of the selection assembly. Painful (hard on the neck being   
   upside down) but doable with some practice, and avoids removing the   
   assembly if you aren't certain that it is a shorted coil...   
      
   If you trust your mechanical skills then remove the selection assembly   
   (you will need to anyway to replace the bad coil) and then test the   
   coils on your bench.   
      
   Do not forget to use the provided centering pin (that black metal pin   
   with the 'E'-clip, about three/four inches long, clipped to the inside   
   left wall of the cabinet under the mechanism shelf) or a Phillips   
   screwdriver (#3 I think - 1/4" dia. shaft) to align the assembly once it   
   is reinstalled...
