   on your button i supose your talking about the selector buttons. i have found   
   out by tearing off a small piece of paper towel and put over the metal tab and   
   pushing the plastic button down over it will fix most of those problems. if   
   you smelled smoke    
   then you may have melted a wire somewhere. theres a switch that is made up   
   when the record is at rest. see if you have voltages there. if your fuse is   
   okay then you may have a wire broken .  also make sure all you button tabs are   
   released. due to the    
   small voltages sometimes if you have a button tab that is not released it will   
   affect other things. there good boxes but can be a pain to try to located the   
   problems sometimes. hope this helps.  norm
