Sacqueboutier appears to have caused the
following letters to be typed in
   news:2006010521110516807-nospam@nocomspamcastnet:

   > The facts are:
   >
   > In 1995, the Cleveland orchestra was ranked as the best orchestra in
   > America by a major national magazine (one I have little use for, but you
   > libs seem to love).
   >
   > We can be counted as lucky that Dohnanyi was no Solti. In some
   > repertoire, Solti was magnificent. In the basic central European
   > repertoire of Beethoven, Brahms, and such, he was rather pedestrian.
   > Dohnanyi's contributions in Beethoven and Brahms easily surpass those of
   > Solti/CSO. Solti's Mahler cycle is worthy only for the contributions of
   > the fine orchestra, not for any interpretive insight from the conductor.
   > Solti's Bruckner is crass and overblown with little depth.
   >
   > Having worked in the business, Deacon knows full well the power of
   > marketing. Marketing accounts for more sales than artistry in this
   > industry. Otherwise, why would we have so many recordings by Simon
   > Prattle and Roger Borrington?

I may not endorse your negative remarks about Rattle and Norrington (nor
your opinion of Time Magazine), but I will happily endorse your positive
ones about Dohnanyi and especially the magnificent Cleveland Orchestra.
