There's absolutely no advantage to mastering to vinyl using a digital
source, particularly using a 16 bit commercial CD. The quality of the
sound of vinyl comes from being taken directly from the analogue master
tape with no analogue to digital conversion. The fact that it's pressed
on plastic makes no difference whatsoever.

If you just want to add surface noise to a CD to make it easier to
listen to, then pick up a copy of "Marcel Marceau Live" (it's an LP
with two whole sides of silence), transfer it, and mix it into your
digital rip. It will give you exactly the same result.

There are numerous companies re-releasing classic albums on audiphile
grade vinyl. They source from the original master tapes, not digital
approximations. There are also a lot of places that strike inexpensive
dubplates if you just want a record of something.
