   RE: The pre-Queen SMILE US promo-only 45 ("Earth/Step")   
      
   Why do people say that the 45s with the "hand-etched" matrix numbers are   
   bootlegs?  I have over a hundred different Mercury/Smash/Philips white label   
   promo's from 68-69 (all different bands - most very obscure - and they all   
   came from a former radio rep) and almost half of the singles have   
   hand -etched matrix numbers.  The Smile 45 being one of them.  These 7   
   inches were DEFINATELY being distributed to radio by Mercury/Smash/Philips,   
   so why do Queen collectors insist these are bootlegs?
