From: stamps@optonline.net              Fisher To Chair 2009 AFDCS Nominating Committee              American First Day Cover Society president Chris Lazaroff has       appointed Mary Kay Fisher of Niles, Mich., to chair the 2009       Nominating Commitee. Joining Fisher on the panel are Helen Fowler,       also of Michigan, and John Cropper of Richmond, Ky.              Five seats on the AFDCS Board of Directors are elected each year for       three-year terms, beginning Jan. 1 of the following year. In addition       to the 15 elected directors, the president, the editor of the official       journal, First Days, and the general counsel serve on the board ex       officio, if not elected to the board themselves.              The three-year terms of Tom Foust, Betty Hundley, Doug Kelsey, Julian       Pugh, and Cynthia Scott expire at the end of 2009. All five incumbents       are eligible for re-nomination.              AFDCS directors are not compensated, nor reimbursed for their travel       expenses. The board meets annually at Americover, the society's annual       show and convention, which this year is being held July 31-Aug. 2 in       Boxborough, Mass., and via mail ballots as needed.              Results of the elections are announced in September. The board       subsequently elects some of the operating officers of the AFDCS:       president, executive vice president, first vice president, and       recording secretary, as well as its chairman. (Other officers are the       chairs of the Membership and Education departments, the editor,       general counsel and immediate past president.)              All three members of the nominating committee are well-known       cachetmakers. Fisher has won the Earl Planty Award for hand-drawn       hand-painted covers. Fowler and her husband Fred are seen at shows       throughout the Upper Midwest, while Cropper has served on the       committee before.              Anyone wishing to run for the AFDCS Board should contact Mary Kay       Fisher at 110 N Philip Road, Niles, MI 49120 or marykfisher@att.net.              --- SoupGate-Win32 v1.05        * Origin: you cannot sedate... all the things you hate (1:229/2)    |
