   If I were you I would first make a disk image of the current disk in   
   case something goes wrong.   
      
   Then, assuming I had plenty of room on the hard disk, I would copy the   
   entire contents of the backed up image to the new installation, under a   
   folder called "Old Disk" or something. Then I would find all data files   
   and move them to the new permanent location at my convenience. All the   
   old browser profiles, bookmarks, etc will be available for importing to   
   the new setup. Finally, after using the computer for a few weeks and I   
   was sure everything was working properly, I'd consider deleting the   
   "Old Disk" folder.

   I don't think XP will let you format the currently active system   
   partition. You will need to boot up with the Windows install disk or to   
   use a third-party utility.
