   Advice: Stop internet access(preferably remove cable).   
            Stop virusscanners until reboot.   
            Then start chkdsk.   
            When finished, reboot.   
   Same advice if you do a defrag.   
   And stop doing any work while those programs are running.   
   That will avoid most interference with those programs.
