   I installed MS Office 2003 on my computer the other day, and since   
   then it seems to run a lot slower, and it takes 20-30 minutes to boot   
   instead of the usual 7 (Windows XP)*   
      
   It seems to have installed a mysterious floating icon with a   
   microphone on it, and I wonder what that is and how I can get rid of   
   it -- perhaps it is slowinf things down looking for a microphone when   
   my computer doesn't have one. Does anyone know what it is and how to   
   disable it?   
      
   I've found Word 2010 (which I have on my laptop) useful for editing   
   documents, but not for setting them up, and find it much easier to   
   work with styles in Win 97. Unfortunately Word 2003 also seems to be   
   awkward with styles.   
      
   * Someone is boud to ask why I am installing 13-year-old software on   
   my computer, so I will explain here for those who want to know.   
      
   I've usually run Office 97, and found a problem which I thought had   
   corrupted the installation, and thought I might need to reinstall (it   
   turned out to be a problem with settings). My Wife had a copy of   
   Office 2003, but had not installed because she had got the 2010   
   oversion instead (which I also have on my laptop computer) I usually   
   creat Word documents in Word 97, and then edit them in either version,   
   because styles are eaier to set up in 97 -- see above).
