   Well, you have to understand that independent greengrocers in NYC used to   
   (perhaps still do) indicate the weight of produce in pounds using not "lb"   
   but "#" for "pound(s)" -- whence the insistence of nospam ... and of US   
   telephony workers ... to refer to the "#" key as the "pound" key. Confuses   
   many folks (in particular, musicians and tic-tac-toe lovers) as badly as   
   calling the "*" key the "wildcard" key would do :-) , yet pleases others.
