|    I considered buying a new computer    |

From: jertews7@nomail.com              I considered buying a new computer, as far as a laptop. At home I       still use my desktop running XP SP3, as well as an older machine with       Windows 98 and Win2000.              My laptop is running XP as well, but the computer itself is getting       flakey, whereas bumping it sometimes causes a blue screen and reboot.       Not to mention the battery is weak. Plus the computer is around 8 or 9       years old.              I have never bought a new computer. All my desktops are home built, or       rebuilt and upgraded older machines. But laptops are too hard to work       on and rather than spend the money on a new battery for a computer       that tends to act flakey, I decided to buy a more modern used       computer. I looked on Ebay and what I am seeing are high priced for       used machines, and things like that from ebay can have problems too.              Before I spend $150 to $200 for a used computer on ebay, I noticed       that Walmart has brand new computers for as little as $220. They are       not top of the line, but I know they are faster than my old laptop,       and have more features.              However, before pulling out my wallet, I tried the store demo. It took       me less than 10 minutes to know that there is no way in hell that I       will ever be happy using Windows 10. It actually repulses me, the same       way Windows 8.x did when I tried a few store demos some years back.              I have never used any version of Windows newer than XP SP3. I have       heard good things about Windows 7, but ALL new computers have Win10       whether I want it or not. So, if I was to buy a new computer for $220,       I'd have to spend another roughly $100 to buy a Windows 7 install CD.       (seems to be the going price on ebay and amazon). THen wipe the hard       drive and install Win7. But that's not going to happen. Either I buy a       new computer with Win7 already installed, or I wont be buying a NEW       computer, and will instead buy a used one with Win7 installed.              Honestly, I'd be perfectly happy to just get a new computer with XP       installed on it, or I can install XP myself since I have a licensed CD       and all registration necessary. I really do not care that XP is       obsolete, it does everything I need.              Anyhow, I am wondering if there is any place to still buy new       computers with older versions of Windows installed, (Windows 7) and       for reasonable prices?              * If you're here to try to talk people into using Linux, dont waste       your time typing. I've already been through the Linux nightmare, and       wont be going back there ever again.              --- SoupGate-Win32 v1.05        * Origin: you cannot sedate... all the things you hate (1:229/2)    |
