   A desktop is easy -- I bought a ready built one without OS, and   
   restored my Acronis XP backups on to it, downloaded a couple of new   
   drivers and was ready to go -- no reinstalling programs, hunting for   
   installation disks, and all that hassle.   
      
   But laptops often have specialist drivers, designed for the   
   pre-installed OS, which won't work with another OS.
