I am still stuck trying to get WXP to handle the internet connection.
I am now trying XP SP3.
This is an extract from the network diagnostic log:
   ..
FTP (passive) error 12029 connecting to ftp.microsoft.com. A
connection with the server could not be established
   HTTP: successfully connected with www.microsoft.com
HTTPS: error 12157 connecting to www.microsoft.com
An error occurred in the secure channel support
   ...
   couldn't make an FTP connection
   couldn't make a HTTPS connection

   (I hope this is right)
   Anyone?
