They just try things out and see what happens.              You're forgetting, sir, that lax security allowed imposters       to insert themselves into kernel.org and attempt supply       chain attacks. One university got a permaban for their       hijinks (no one claiming an association with the university       can submit code, a punishment for fucking around and finding out).              With good reason, Linus has to be on his toes, and       keep his trusted associates by his side. You cannot       allow asshats in the inner circle, without consequences.       (The walls around kernel.org have to be pretty high,       and the number of participants for drivers, is large.)       If that requires a middle-finger once in a while,       then apply that finger.              Code is rigorously reviewed, for hardening issues.       If you can't take feedback, you shouldn't be doing       that job. Linus would claim he has a thick skin, and       it is the nature of the business that everyone has       to have a thick skin when it comes to receiving feedback.       For example, if I wasted someones time by creating a       new package called HelloWorld with three lines of code,       I would fully expect to receive a blast on multiple       levels in return. They don't like trolls in FOSS-land either.              If you're an asshat of a FOSS developer, go work       on yet-another File Manager or something. Or a new       version of Listdir. Attempt your supply chain attack       there, and annoy a whole different group of people.       There are some pretty attentive packaging people,       who will cut you off at the knees when you try your shit.              It's a professional environment. Wear clean underwear.               Paul              --- SoupGate-Win32 v1.05        * Origin: you cannot sedate... all the things you hate (1:229/2)    |
