Isn't "Sync your Gmail account" a popup? If so, it is probably a
one-time choice for the current mail poll. On the next mail poll,
   you'll get the prompt again.

   I'm confused.
Why add a Gmail to Outlook if you don't want to use Outlook for Gmail?
Why install Outlook at all if you don't want to use it?

Maybe you want Gmail defined in Outlook, but only want to perform
manually initiated mail polls on Gmail while still having automated mail
polls on other accounts defined in Outlook. That is, you want to have
Outlook check Gmail, but only when you tell it to. You can define
multiple Send/Receive Groups with each having different polling
   settings. In the ribbon toolbar:

   - Click on Send/Receive to focus on that tab group.
   - Click on "Send/Receive Groups".
   - In the drop-down list menu, click on "Define Send/Receive Groups".
   - A dialog window appears to let you define Send/Receive groups.
   - Select a group (you may have only one, the default), and click Edit.
   - In a left panel, you see a list of e-mail accounts.
   - Select (click on) the Gmail account.
   - Deselect the checkbox "Include the selected account in this group".
   - With Gmail removed from a Send/Receive group, Gmail will not get
polled using the polling settings for that Send/Receive group.

You could create another Send/Receive group just for Gmail.

   - Click New to create a new Send/Receive group. Name the group, like
     "Gmail only".
   - Exclude all accounts except Gmail.
o Select each account, and disable "Include the selected account".
o Select the Gmail account. Enable "Include the selected account".
   - Back in the Send/Receive groups settings, select the "Gmail only"
     Send/Receive group.
   - Set the polling options how you want. For example:
o Disable all of the following:
         Schedule ...
         Perform an automatic ...
     o Enable only the following:
Include this group in send/receive (F9).

Now you've left the Gmail account in Outlook, but it will not get
automatically polled using the settings for the All Accounts
Send/Receive group. It only gets polled when you hit the F9 key, or you
use the Send/Receive ribbon tab, click on Send/Receive Groups, and
   select the Gmail Inbox folder.

The Send/Receive groups to vary polling options for different e-mail
accounts is one of those advanced features you have to dig into to
discover. It's buried, and not overtly obvious when you see the
   Send/Receive Groups settings dialog.
