Q: When did turbotax desktop drop support for windows xp?

A: TurboTax Desktop dropped support for Windows XP around the 2015 tax
year (released late 2014 or early 2015).Microsoft ended mainstream
support for Windows XP in April 2009 and extended support (including
security updates) on April 8, 2014. Intuit, like many software vendors,
typically phases out support for an OS shortly after or around
   Microsoft's end-of-support date for security reasons.From historical
Intuit support discussions:TurboTax 2016 (for tax year 2015, released in
late 2015) explicitly did not support Windows XP.

As of 2014/2015, users reported that TurboTax 2015 (or 2016 versions)
would no longer install or run on XP, with Intuit stating it required at
least Windows Vista SP2 or higher.

Earlier versions (e.g., TurboTax 2014 for tax year 2013) likely still
worked on XP, as Intuit often lagged slightly behind Microsoft's cutoff
   but aligned closely.

Intuit's general policy (as noted in their support articles) is to stop
supporting old OSes like Windows XP when Microsoft no longer does, to
maintain security and compatibility. For reference, a direct Intuit
community post from around 2016 confirmed: "TurboTax 2016 will not work
on Windows XP. Microsoft stopped supporting Windows XP on April 8th,
2014. Two years ago was the last year TurboTax was able to run on
Windows XP..."So, the effective drop was for preparing 2015 taxes onward
(TurboTax 2015/2016 releases). If you have an older XP machine, you'd
need to use archived prior-year software (e.g., TurboTax 2014 or
   earlier) or switch to alternatives.
