   Your "in an attempt to thwart" is *you* tacking an intent to a downside of   
   what he does (to protect himself).   
      
   And yes, I do agree that it makes it harder for us to keep him in our   
   kill-files.   
      
   But think of this : My newsgroup server, Eternal September, has disabled the   
   use of attachments / binaries in most of its newsgroups.  Should I now   
   assume that its ES'es intent to make the lives harder of people who just   
   want to include a picture (screenshot) instead of penning down a thousand   
   words ?   Or should I take it as it is, an unwanted, but unavoidable   
   side-effect ?
