How to remember which is which? Good       question; I suppose think of loose as related to the adjective - a loose       thread, catch, etc. is something that might release or come undone;       therefore the verb loose (as in "loose the dogs on him!") is also to do       with releasing something, whereas lose meaning misplace isn't. Hope that       helps!              John       --       J. P. Gilliver.
